Our in-studio art camps focus on learning the fundamental drawing and paintings skills in a friendly and creative environment. All art classes are taught by professional artist. In the afternoons students will engage in academics, hands on crafts, socializing, physical exercise and games.

USARTS Camp Daily Schedule

This camp is hosted on location at USARTS Education Center

Students may come as early as 8:30am for free reading time. Maximum class size 8 students for younger age and 10 for older age.


Camp Class schedule: Monday to Friday

  • 9:00am to 12:00pm Art class (with half hour break)  

  • 12:00pm - 1:00pm: Lunch

  • 1:00pm - 4:00pm: Academics, Crafts, Socializing, Physical exercises, and Games.

  • 4:00 pm -6:00 pm: Extended Day- Art Class ( additional $50 fee) Please note we close 4pm on Tuesdays


  Art Camp Tuition:

Half Day, 9am -12pm: $325 // week or use 8 classes from yearly registration

Full Day, 9am-4pm: $450 //week or use 11 classes from yearly registration

Extended Day, 4:00 pm -6:00 pm: - Art Class ( additional $50 fee per day or use one additional class from yearly session) Please note we close 4pm on Tuesdays


Priority registration is available for students signing up for the full week! Registration for individual days available starting Sunday before the camp starts. Daily drop-in rate is $75( Half Day) or $100 (Full Day) .

Lunch: $8/ day. Mon: Chicken nuggets, Tues/Thurs: Turkey sandwich or Grilled cheese sandwich, Wed/Fri: Cheese Pizza…..all lunches will include fruits and 100% fruit juice.

Cancelations: There will be a $35 or one class cancelation fee if cancel one week ahead. There will be a $100 or two classes cancelation fee if canceled less than one week ahead by 8pm on the Saturday before camp starts. If canceled after 8pm on the Saturday before the camp starts or after the camp started, there will be no credit or refund.

 

What you will learn:

Feb 16–20: Cute animals from Winter to Spring

Students will create adorable animal artworks with seasonal backgrounds inspired by winter or spring using colored pencils and watercolor. Fun animals such as snowy bunnies, playful foxes, and other cute animals will inspire students to use their imagination to add details, backgrounds, and storytelling elements to make each artwork unique.

Mar 30–Apr 3: Blooming Flowers in Acrylic

Students will explore the beauty of spring by creating large-scale acrylic flower paintings on specially prepared gessoed paper. Finished pieces will be cut out and displayed as hanging works, creating a vibrant, immersive installation.

Younger students will focus on playful color, bold shapes, and freedom of expression, while older students can dive deeper into observation, realism, and surface texture.

APR 6th-10th: Bug Out!

Students will explore the fascinating world of bugs through painting, drawing, and mixed media collage. Each day, students will observe real insects (through photos and models), learn basic art techniques, and create imaginative bug-inspired artwork—from colorful butterflies to 3D fantasy creatures.

Wild Friends: Cute Animals Around the World

Media: Markers, colored pencils, collage, acrylic markers

Travel the world through art as students create adorable animal drawings inspired by global wildlife and artists like Eric Carle and Franz Marc. Students will explore bold colors, fun patterns, and expressive designs using markers and mixed media. Perfect for young artists who love animals and imagination!

Fantastic Flowers Lab: A World of Color

Media: Acrylic paint, oil pastels, watercolor

Students will explore vibrant flowers inspired by artists like Georgia O’Keeffe and Vincent van Gogh while experimenting with bold colors and textures. Using acrylic paint, oil pastels, and watercolor, creating expressive floral masterpieces.

Funny Bug Tales: Storytelling Through Art

Media: Pen & ink, watercolor, colored pencils

Students will design their own bug characters and bring their stories to life through art inspired by illustrators like Beatrix Potter. We will combine drawing, watercolor, and colored pencils to create fun scenes and mini visual narratives.

Dream Worlds: Surreal Art Adventures

Media: Colored pencils, chalk pastels, watercolor

Students will explore surreal art by creating dreamlike scenes inspired by artists like Salvador Dalí and René Magritte. We will design floating objects and unexpected ideas using color and imagination.

Rainbow Bakery: Sweet Art Studio

Media: Acrylic paint, oil pastels, colored pencils

Inspired by Wayne Thiebaud’s colorful dessert paintings, students will create delicious art featuring cakes, cupcakes, and treats while exploring shading, texture, and bright color gradients.

Colorful Birds & Nature: Acrylic Painting Camp

Media: Acrylic paint

Students will paint vibrant birds and natural landscapes inspired by artists like Henri Rousseau and John James Audubon. Students will explore bold color palettes, texture, and brush techniques while learning about nature through art.

My Tiny Town: Buildings, Streets & Imagination

Media: Markers, colored pencils, acrylic paint, collage

Students will design their own imaginative towns inspired by whimsical city artists like Hundertwasser and James Rizzi. We will explore perspective, pattern, and storytelling through colorful street scenes.

Faces & Feelings: Expressive Portraits for Kids

Media: Colored pencils, chalk pastels, markers, light charcoal

Students will explore how artists show emotions and personality through portraits inspired by Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo. Students will create expressive self-portraits and character drawings using fun colors and mixed media.

Little Masters Studio: Fun With Famous Artists

Media: Mixed media (paint, collage, markers, pastels)

Students will explore different art styles inspired by famous artists like Mondrian, Kandinsky, Matisse, and Van Gogh. Each day introduces a new artist and a playful project using hands-on techniques.

Ocean Wonders: Art Under the Sea

Media: Watercolor, oil pastels, acrylic markers, collage

Dive into the magical world of ocean art inspired by artists like Hokusai and David Hockney. Students will create sea creatures, coral reefs, and underwater scenes using watercolor and mixed media.

 Soccer-Art camps

We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Legends FC SD-Del Mar! This exciting collaboration offers an incredible opportunity to blend the best of both worlds—Soccer & Art!

Our blended camps are designed to keep your child active, engaged, and inspired all day long, combining sports and creativity in an exciting way! These full-day camps will feature the excitement of soccer in the mornings, followed by the creative expression of art in the afternoons. The camps are on one location, using the Recreation Center soccer fields in the morning and the Recreation Center classroom in the afternoon. Soccer Camps are designed for recreational players and no previous experience is required. We welcome beginners and new players to the game. All classes are taught by professional soccer coaches and USArts instructors.

10 % discount when registering for both AM and PM (each camp tuition would be $315)

Single day drop in : $80/ day soccer and $80/day Art class.

Students should bring their own lunch, reusable water bottle, sunscreen and a light jacket.

This program is designed for middle school and high school students for improving drawing skills and producing art works for their college application portfolio. This is not only for those who want to major in art, but also great for students who want to use art as an extra curriculum to enhance their applications for any major like the sciences or liberal arts.


(Students may come as early as 8:30am for free reading time and can stay after 12pm to volunteer with the K-12 camp (please notify staff when registering)

Method

The curriculum will be tailored to each student's needs, guided by professional artists. We will focus on sharpening their observation skills through high detail rendering practice and introduce various college-level techniques. The instructor will constantly be encouraging and challenging the students' current level to push them to the next.

Why Middle School Students

From our past experience, high school students often realize that they need more skill to build a competitive portfolio. So we intend to help current middle school students put in time and effort into their fine art training now and be prepared for when they need it most.

What you will learn:

Gestural Ink & Observational Drawing : Teacher - Lulu

This expressive class is inspired by Chinese ink painting and calligraphy, emphasizing gestural mark-making, fast thinking, and quick decision-making to capture the essence, energy, and atmosphere of an object, figure, or environment. Students produce a high volume of work in a short time, combining ink with other materials as mixed media through both quick studies and longer exercises. The last day of camp (Friday) includes a live model, supporting observational and gestural painting with a strong focus on proportion, movement, and dynamic form. Short critiques and brief one-on-one discussions at the end of each session highlight strengths and areas for improvement, encouraging rapid growth and confident, intuitive expression.

Figure drawing focus on body proportion and gesture:

Students will learn about bone and muscle structures and how to capture the body movement. Figure drawing is an important skills to have if students are interested in concept arts, animations, fashion designs.

 Developing Creative Artworks for portfolio:

Students will learn the steps of idea development, researching, collaging, drawing and/or painting, through a structural process to prepare art for portfolios or competitions

Still life drawing from observation:

Students will learn the fundamentals of composition, geometry, lighting, texture and shadings techniques as it applies to still life arrangements. Using pencil, charcoal and conte and acrylic students will learn to create still life drawings and paintings from observation.

ProCreate Digital Art

Over five engaging afternoons (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM), you'll dive into the basics of ProCreate, from learning essential tools to creating your own original digital artwork. Day 1 focuses on mastering the app’s features, Day 2 helps you develop and sketch your concepts, and Days 3-4 are dedicated to refining your digital skills and preparing for your final print. On Day 5, you'll put the finishing touches on your piece, with the option to add hand-drawn elements or finalize your digital design. Each student will have their final project printed on 13"x19" enhanced matte paper for just a $3 printing fee. Required materials: iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, ProCreate app ($10), and an eagerness to create

Art Portfolio Bootcamp: Research, Write, Format

This bootcamp helps students create a strong art portfolio by focusing on both artistic and research development and written reflection. Over two weeks, students will refine their creative ideas, learn about art history, and develop their skills through sketching, mood boards, and final projects. They'll also learn how to write about their artwork and process, a key skill for AP Art and college applications. By the end of this fast-paced course, students will have a complete understanding of researching, writing, and formatting a cohesive portfolio.  A field trip to a local museum will also provide real-world inspiration.
